Balsam Blitz

Balsam Blitz

Published: 21 Jun 24

There is a warm welcome to everyone who fancies pulling out Himalayan Balsam along the lanes in Llanllawddog. These pretty pink flowers that look, fabulous but are a non-native species and if left to flower and go to seed then the seed pods once ripened, ping and can send seeds up to 7 m away. As each plant can produce up to 2000 seeds it is easy to see why it is a very invasive species. Although attractive, Himalayan Balsam soon swamps an area, choking native species and creating a mono culture. It is extremely easy to pull out, and we intend leaving the plants on site. Full instructions will be given, along with free refreshments at the church hall, Llanllawddog. Looking forward to seeing you with suitable footwear and gloves at the Llanllawddog, Church Hall at 9.30am. Read More...
